As an experienced business litigation attorney, Emily Tidmore is known by her clients and peers for her analytical thinking, attention to detail, and articulate writing. She has earned numerous accolades for her work, including being named by The Best Lawyers in America© as “Lawyer of the Year” in Birmingham for Bet-the-Company Litigation (2019) and Litigation-Intellectual Property (2018), and recognized in three additional categories: Appellate Practice, Commercial Litigation, and Litigation-Labor and Employment. Emily has an AV-preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell; has been designated by Super Lawyers as an Alabama and Mid-South Rising Star; and was recognized in B-Metro’s Top Women Lawyers 2018.
Emily built her reputation as a commercial litigator and appellate lawyer representing clients in complex commercial litigation in venues throughout the country, including the United States Supreme Court. Her experience includes commercial and labor-and-employment class actions, business torts, intellectual property disputes, transportation regulation, and punitive damages and federal preemption issues. Emily also served as counsel to a municipal bond insurer and significant creditor of Jefferson County, Alabama in connection with the County’s chapter 9 bankruptcy filing, and she was a co-editor of the second edition of Municipalities in Peril, the ABI Guide to Chapter 9.
Prior to joining Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury LLC, Emily gained valuable appellate experience clerking for now-Chief Judge Ed Carnes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Her clerkship experience has served her well in the course of representing clients on appeal in the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeal for the First, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuits and state appellate courts, including successfully petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court for writ of certiorari.
