Insourcing
In the early 1990s, one of our clients correctly predicted that legal
costs would skyrocket in the coming years. The client concluded that the
most cost-effective way to deal with this threat was to employ a large
in-house staff of experienced litigators, devoted full-time to its cases, at
half the cost of outside counsel. This model has enabled our client to keep
its litigation expenses among the lowest of companies in the Fortune 500.
While in-sourcing can be a cost-effective way to deal with cases that are
both foreseeable to a company and familiar to its lawyers, a need for
outside support can occasionally arise. Because Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury
is flexible and focused on the needs of its clients, it is ready and willing
to provide this additional support. We work with our clients to ensure that
responsibilities for litigation are allocated efficiently between in-house
and outside counsel. Often, extensive preliminary discussions about this
allocation can save enormous costs over the course of the litigation.
