As an experienced business litigation attorney, Emily J. Tidmore has become known by her clients and peers for her focus, attention to detail and analytical thinking. She has earned several accolades for her work, including an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, recognition in Best Lawyers magazine as among the best lawyers in the field of commercial litigation in 2014, and designation as a “Rising Star” by Alabama Super Lawyers magazine from 2011 to 2014.

Tidmore built her reputation as a commercial litigator and appellate lawyer, representing clients in complex commercial litigation in a variety of venues throughout the country, including the United States Supreme Court. Her litigation experience includes commercial and labor-and-employment class actions, business torts, intellectual property disputes, transportation regulation, and punitive damages and federal preemption issues. Recently, Tidmore served as counsel to a municipal bond insurer and significant creditor of Jefferson County, Alabama in connection with the County’s historic chapter 9 bankruptcy filing, and she was a co-editor of the second edition of Municipalities in Peril, the ABI Guide to Chapter 9, which was published in 2012.

Prior to joining Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury LLC, Tidmore gained valuable appellate experience clerking for now-Chief Judge Ed Carnes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Her clerkship experience has served her well in the course of representing clients (both parties and amici) on appeal in the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeal for the First, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits and state appellate courts, including successfully petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court for writ of certiorari.
