Appellate Litigation
Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury LLC provides knowledgeable counseling and representation
in the increasingly specialized area of appellate practice. Anchored
by three former judicial clerks for the U.S. Court of Appeals for
the Eleventh Circuit, Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury LLC has represented clients in
federal and state appellate courts throughout the United States. In
recent years, Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury LLC has represented clients in the U.S.
Supreme Court; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Fifth,
Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuits; and the state
appellate courts of Alabama, California, Illinois, and Tennessee.
In addition to handling appeals for its trial-court litigation
clients, Spotswood Sansom & Sansbury LLC frequently handles appeals in cases in which
it had no role at trial. As appellate counsel, Spotswood Sansom &
Sansbury LLC seeks
to bring fresh perspectives to the trial record and thoughtful
consideration of the issues that are likely to prevail on appeal.
Appellate Consulting
In addition to appearing as appellate counsel, Spotswood Sansom &
Sansbury LLC has
also developed an extensive appellate consulting practice. Spotswood
Sansom & Sansbury LLC works closely with lawyers from other firms to formulate and
implement appellate strategy before and during trial, including the
preservation of errors and the filing of summary-judgment and
post-verdict briefs. They have also been hired to evaluate cases
being considered for appeal, to brief particular jurisdictional
issues, to review appellate briefs, to help prepare counsel for oral
argument, and to prepare amicus briefs in appellate cases.
